The Insecure Writer’s Group: February 2019

Well, it is now the month of February. All kinds of things are going on. This month is Chinese New Year! For those of you who celebrate this holiday, I have a question for you.
Do you have any travel plans? This year is the year of the pig. Ahhhhhh……nice year! Try to live your life to the fullest without overdoing it financially to where it can affect you having a place to live and get around.
Keep that health in check. My motto for this year is: « Work hard and play harder. »-anonymous
Happy Chinese new year! The month of February also consists of other holidays and celebrations as well. Let’s see: black history month, Valentine’s day, Mardi Gras, and the watching of the second most famous rat in the world: the ground hog. February 2nd is Ground Hog’s day and my middle sister’s birthday. Now, let’s talk about Mardi Gras for a moment.
This month is Mardi Gras in the state of Louisiana. Thousands to millions of people go to Mardi Gras every year. Most people flock to New Orleans for this festival.
However, the city of Shreveport, Louisiana also holds Mardi Gras. I personally know two people who are going to this one. Not too long ago one of my sisters told me that she expressed an interest in going to Mardi Gras.
We discussed Bayou food, too. As a result, I looked at what Shreveport, Louisiana has to offer regarding Mardi Gras parades and entertainment. Surprisingly, there are things to do there! It seems like Shreveport has a totally different schedule regarding Mardi Gras.
I was told that Mardi Gras in New Orleans, Louisiana happens every day all the way through « Fat Tuesday ». However, when I called around and checked out Mardi Gras in Shreveport, I was told that the Mardi Gras parades happen each weekend starting around the end of January through « Fat Tuesday » in the month of March.
You know, the funny thing about this whole thing is the fact that when I looked this stuff up on the internet, I did not find out much concerning Mardi Gras in Shreveport. Every time I typed in Mardi Gras in Shreveport, I found information almost exclusively about New Orleans!
Man, what a major disappointment! However, once I kept digging and surfing the internet, I found enough information for my sister. Hell, I had to do Google search and look up activities through social media! I guess the Shreveport Chamber of Commerce carries more information about the Shreveport Mardi Hras than the internet!
I will tell you about everything next month. Now, let me tell you something interesting about some of Shreveport, Louisiana’s Mardi Gras parades.
Usually, in a Mardi Gras parade people catch beaded necklaces. And, if one is lucky(I guess), that person will catch the prettier beads The prettier beads to me are the glass beads, wooden ones, etc. These beads stand out compared to the typical solid colored plastic beads. In Shreveport, more than beads get thrown from the floats!
Wow! Things like hot dogs and Moon Pies are tossed! Wow! Also, towards the end of this month is the Morris Day and The Time concert. They will be performing at the Motorcity Casino located in Detroit, Michigan Sunday February 24th, 2019. Hooooodeeeehoooooo! Yaya! 🙌 Next, there is Valentine’s Day. I think that Valentine’s Day is the most romantic day of the year.
However, aside from April Fool’s Day and Christmas, Valentine’s Day is also « asshole day »-a day where a select few decide to be assholes and break up with their significant others on the most romantic and cheesy day of the year.
What are you going to do on Valentine’s Day? I will see and decide what I am going to do. There is a dinner and dance going on this day.
I am not sure if it is being hosted by FunAsia or not. Next, all month is black history month. I really was not aware about black history month, until I read Ebony and Essence Magazines in my pre-teen years. Before that, I just knew that something was up when I was a kid in Los Angeles when the movie Carmen Jones was shown every year on the television.
I loved that movie as a kid. Pretty much after that I enjoyed watching the old black and white Pippy Longstockings movies. I am surprised that there are no black history month festivals going on as far as I know.
Hell, where are the black history parades, concerts, shows, film festivals, parties, and all of that shit? Hm? Hm? Anywho, as

these festivities begin, I will be….let’s see….I will tell you what happened next month. For now I bid everyone adieu!
